   Annual Meeting     



The mission of the Gogebic Range Genealogical Society is to promote and assist with the research and preservation of genealogy and family history of the Gogebic Range area. This area encompasses Gogebic County, Michigan, and Iron County, Wisconsin.

July 2017:  CONGRATULATIONS to Catherine LaForge Tonkin, who became an official Gogebic Range Pioneer Family descendent!  She is a direct decendent of Giuseppe Angelo Chioni, who lived in Hurley, Wisconsin in 1888 or earlier.

Was your family living on the Gogebic Range before December 31, 1900? If so, we want you to join our exclusive group of Gogebic Range Pioneer Families. 
To join GR Pioneer Families: 
1.  You must be a member of the Gogebic Range Genealogical Society when your application is submitted.  (please see the link above for becoming a member).
2.  You must provide documented proof of each generation back to the ancestor that was in the county by December 31, 1900. 
3.  A fee of $20 is due with the application. 
Each submitted and approved Gogebic Range Pioneer Family submission will receive a certificate.



Our genealogical society is dedicated to helping you find your roots on the Gogebic Range. Our obituary database contains the names of over 70,000 residents who lived on the Gogebic Range between 1890 and the present. Hundreds of records are being added every month.

- Steve Szabados - Beyond the Basics: Hints to solve your Brick Walls  Learn techniques to solve your brick walls; Overcome problems with the spelling of surnames; learn to search in the correct location and review cases that will help unlock the early U.S. census records. Steve reviews various advanced search techniques that he has used to overcome challenges finding those difficult documents.
